Sundrops Playschool is a play-based preschool for kids ages 2.5 to 5.
We are located in Indian Village, Detroit.
About Us
Sundrops is a play school for children aged 2.5 to 5 years, designed as a sanctuary for creativity, connection, and natural exploration. With one inviting classroom, a spacious atrium filled with tricycles and toys, and a nature-rich courtyard, our environment is purpose-built to foster sensory-based learning through imaginative play. Our facilities, which include toddler-sized amenities, wooden picnic tables, a jungle gym, and an organic children’s garden, encourage children to engage with their surroundings and with one another in meaningful ways.
We are proud to partner with Keep Growing Detroit to give our children hands-on experience in cultivating plants, learning about ecosystems, and understanding the importance of stewardship. Our community connection goes further, with puppet shows by local experts in early childhood development, enriching children’s reading comprehension and social skills.
As a woman-owned and operated school, Sundrops champions the principles of respect, boundaries, and cooperation. We guide children in understanding and expressing consent, sharing responsibility, and embracing teamwork. Our highly skilled teachers are dedicated observers, lifelong learners, and facilitators of a learning journey that prioritizes outdoor play whenever possible—up to 90% of our day, weather permitting.
At Sundrops, we believe that a rich early education is one that nurtures the heart as much as the mind, guiding children to be compassionate community members who are curious, confident, and eager to contribute.
Mission Statement
At Sundrops, our mission is to nurture each child’s unique potential through sensory-rich, child-led exploration that respects their individuality and embraces a sense of wonder. Rooted in the philosophies of Montessori, Reggio Emilia, and grassroots education, we foster a safe, inclusive space where children learn through play, deepen their connection to nature, and cultivate essential life skills in a supportive community. Together, we empower children to grow with confidence, compassion, and a love for lifelong learning.
Vision Statement
We envision a world where early childhood education is grounded in curiosity, empathy, and respect for the natural world. Sundrops strives to be a model of community-driven learning, where children, families, and educators collaborate to build a foundation of self-awareness, consent, and community-mindedness. Our hope is that every child who begins their journey here will carry these values forward, contributing to a kinder, more connected world.
At Sundrops Playschool, our full time teachers earn $21/hour or above, paid time off, and and free primary care from Plum Health.
